Tuesday Euchre 2. 16.16, Friday Dinner and February Birthdays 2.19.16 and Slovenian Language 2.21.16
The city of Cleveland plays host to a unique ethnic festival which offers numerous fun activities that all age groups can enjoy. The Cleveland Kurentovanje Festival starts on February 5 and goes all day February 6 at several venues including the Slovenian National Home.
What is a Kurentovanje Festival? Originally from Slovenia, the Kurentovanje Festival is the most popular carnival event in the country and features a mythical creature called a Kurent who is believed to chase away Winter and usher in Spring. At the Festival, people portraying Kurents wear huge sheepskin garments with a chain of large bells attached with hopes that the loud clanging sound will indeed chase away Winter.
